Bit extension bars are a must-have accessory for any toolkit. These simple tools allow you to extend the reach of your drill so you can drill holes in hard-to-access areas.
Bit extension bars are metal rods that attach between your drill chuck and drill bit. They come in varying lengths, usually between 3 inches and 18 inches long. The most common sizes are 6 inches, 12 inches, and 18 inches.
Extension bars are made from durable chrome vanadium steel or carbon steel. They have a male hex shank on one end that fits into your drill chuck, and a female hex socket on the other end to fit your drill bit. When using a bit extension bar, it's important to apply firm pressure and drill straight. The longer the extension, the more chance it has of bending or whipping around if you apply force at an angle. Start drilling slowly and adjust your pressure as needed.
